The CP860 is sitting in the middle of a long boardroom table and working fine. The problem is the person four seats away. They speak normally, the far side asks them to repeat it, then everyone starts leaning toward the conference phone. We still see rooms like this in older Dubai offices where the original conference system has years of service left but the table is simply longer than the built-in microphone coverage.

The Yealink CPE80 was made for that exact installation. It is a wired expansion microphone designed for compatible Yealink conference systems, most notably the CP860. Place it toward the far end of the table and it adds up to 3 metres of microphone pickup in a directional 120° area. Not another conference phone. Not a USB microphone. A purpose-built table-end microphone for an existing system.

There is one thing to understand before ordering a Yealink CPE80 in Dubai: this is an older, end-of-life Yealink accessory. It makes sense when you are maintaining an existing CP860 installation, replacing a failed CPE80, or completing a compatible legacy room. For a completely new meeting room in Business Bay, DIFC or Abu Dhabi, we would normally specify hardware from the current Yealink conference phone range instead.

Where the CPE80 Actually Helps

Think of the CPE80 as an extension of the conference phone’s listening area. The main CP860 remains in the centre of the table. The CPE80 goes closer to participants who sit outside the comfortable pickup area of the central unit. That changes the geometry of the room without replacing the whole conference system.

This is particularly useful on rectangular boardroom tables where the conference phone is fixed in the middle but senior staff sit at the head of the table. In a JLT or DMCC office with a long glass-partition meeting room, the person at the end might be another 2 to 3 metres away from the central phone. Moving the whole CP860 toward them only creates the same problem at the other end. An expansion microphone puts pickup closer to the speaker without disturbing the centre position of the conference phone.

The important number is 3 metres. That is the stated pickup range for each CPE80. It is not a claim that the microphone covers an entire 6-metre room by itself. Coverage depends on where it is placed, which direction the microphone faces and how the table is arranged. In practical installations, we use it to extend coverage toward specific seats that are too far from the main conference phone.

CPE80 Compatibility — Check the Existing Room Before Ordering

The official CPE80 documentation identifies the Yealink CP860 as its primary conference-phone application. Older Yealink video-conferencing documentation also shows the microphone being used with certain legacy systems through compatible microphone ports. That does not mean the CPE80 should be treated as a universal Yealink expansion microphone.

Current Yealink conference products use different microphone families, interfaces and room-audio designs. An RJ9 socket that happens to look similar is not enough reason to assume compatibility. If your existing device is not a CP860, send us the exact model number before ordering. We check the host system first. Much cheaper than opening the box and discovering the microphone belongs to a different generation.

For new conference-room projects, start with the current Yealink conference phones available in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The CPE80 page exists because plenty of older CP860 installations are still doing useful work in UAE offices. Replacing one microphone can be more sensible than removing a complete working system.

Which Table Layout Suits the CPE80?

The CPE80 makes most sense on longer rectangular or oval conference tables where the central CP860 remains convenient for the majority of users but one end of the room falls outside comfortable voice pickup. Put the expansion microphone closer to those seats and orient the 120° pickup area toward the people speaking.

Dubai meeting rooms can be acoustically awkward. Glass partitions reflect speech, hard floors carry chair noise and HVAC runs hard for much of the year. An expansion microphone doesn’t fix the room acoustics. What it does is shorten the distance between the person speaking and the microphone. That normally gives the conference system a cleaner signal to work with than trying to capture the same voice from the middle of a long table.

What Comes With the CPE80 — And What Doesn’t

The CPE80 itself is a compact tabletop expansion microphone measuring 104 × 117 × 22 mm. Its connection to the compatible host system is through RJ9, using the specified 1.8-metre connection cable. There is no separate network connection, no Wi-Fi setup and no user account to configure on the microphone.

That simplicity is useful when replacing a failed unit in an existing Dubai boardroom. The important part is identifying the host equipment first. A CPE80 without a compatible Yealink conference system is just a microphone with nowhere useful to connect.

Two CPE80 Microphones on a Larger CP860 Room

There is a useful detail in Yealink’s original CP860 guidance that gets missed on most product pages. When the room is larger than approximately 16 square metres, or a participant is sitting more than 2 metres from the CP860, Yealink recommends adding an expansion microphone. When the room exceeds approximately 36 square metres, the original guidance shows two expansion microphones connected to the CP860.

That’s a much better way to plan the room than simply counting chairs. Eight people squeezed around a short square table may be fine with the central conference phone. Eight people spread along a long 5-metre boardroom table can be a different story. Distance from mouth to microphone matters.

For an existing CP860 room in DIFC or Business Bay, a practical layout is the conference phone near the centre with a CPE80 toward each end of the table where extra pickup is needed. Each microphone has its own 120° directional listening area. Face that area toward the participants. Don’t point both microphones into empty corners and expect the specification sheet to fix the placement.

Does the CPE80 Work With Etisalat, du or Your Office PABX?

Not directly. The CPE80 has no SIP account, telephone number, Ethernet port or PABX registration of its own. It is an audio accessory connected to the conference phone. Any Etisalat, du, SIP or office-PABX compatibility comes from the host conference system, not from the microphone.

If your existing CP860 is already registered to the office telephone system and calls are working, adding or replacing a compatible CPE80 does not create a second extension. It simply changes how voices are picked up around the table. That distinction matters when an IT team is troubleshooting an old room: microphone coverage and SIP registration are two separate parts of the system.

Why We Ask for the Host Model Before Supplying One

CPE80 belongs to an older generation of Yealink room audio. The official datasheet names the CP860. Yealink’s older video-conferencing documentation also shows CPE80 operation through compatible microphone ports on VCP40-based systems. Those are specific documented applications — not proof that every Yealink device with a microphone socket accepts a CPE80.

So when a facilities or IT team sends a photo from an old meeting room in JLT and says, “We need another one of these,” the useful information is the model number printed on the conference phone or video phone. One photo of that label can prevent the wrong accessory being sent across Dubai.

Same point for Abu Dhabi installations. If the room has been operating for several years and nobody has the original equipment list, identify the host first. We can then separate a straightforward CPE80 replacement from a room that should move to current hardware.

Will the CPE80 fix the far end of our CP860 boardroom table?

If the issue is distance from the CP860, that is exactly the documented application. Each CPE80 provides up to 3 metres of directional pickup across a 120° area. Place it toward the seats that are difficult to hear and face the pickup area toward the speakers. Yealink’s original CP860 guidance recommends an expansion microphone when participants are more than about 2 metres from the conference phone.

Can we connect two CPE80 microphones to one CP860?

Yes. Yealink’s original CP860 documentation shows one expansion microphone for rooms above approximately 16 square metres and two for rooms above approximately 36 square metres. Actual placement still matters because each CPE80 is directional rather than 360°.

Will CPE80 work with our Etisalat or du office line?

The microphone doesn’t connect to Etisalat, du or a PABX directly. It connects to the compatible Yealink conference system. Your CP860 or other documented host handles the telephone or SIP connection; the CPE80 only extends microphone pickup around the table.

Can I plug the CPE80 into a laptop because it has an RJ9 connector?

No. It is not a standalone USB or laptop microphone. The RJ9 4P4C connection is intended for a compatible Yealink host system. Do not order it for a PC, generic conference device or another Yealink model until compatibility has been checked.

Is the Yealink CPE80 still a current product?
