The Yealink CPE40 is the expansion audio unit designed for a Yealink CP50 conference setup. What the CPE40 Actually Adds to a CP50 Room
The CPE40 belongs in the Yealink conference phone range, but it’s important to understand what you’re buying. The CPE40 is not meant to replace the CP50. It expands a CP50 installation when one central audio position doesn’t cover the whole table comfortably.
Inside each CPE40 is an 8-element microphone array listening in every direction around the unit. That means you don’t have to point it toward a particular person or chair. Put it where the conversation needs another pickup point and the array covers people around that position. Yealink specifies 360° pickup with a 6-metre range.
There is also a full-range speaker built into the unit. This is useful on longer boardroom tables because the people at the far end don’t have to rely entirely on sound coming from one conference phone several metres away. Instead of turning the CP50 volume up until the seats beside it are uncomfortable, you distribute playback closer to the people who need it.

A CPE40 isn’t just another pickup pod. It extends voice capture and room playback together. That makes more sense on a 10-seat or 14-seat table than simply adding microphone sensitivity at the far end while leaving all incoming audio at the centre of the room.

Think about the table rather than the advertised seat count. An eight-person square table may be easy to cover from one point. An eight-person narrow executive table can be much harder because the two people at the ends may sit several metres apart. That’s common in fitted-out Dubai offices where the room shape is dictated by glass walls, pillars and existing joinery rather than an ideal acoustic layout.
For a longer room, extra CPE40 units can be placed down the table so people don’t have to lean forward or deliberately speak toward the main unit. The Ethernet-based connection keeps the expansion layout cleaner than running separate audio and power cables to every tabletop position.

When one CP50 is used with 4 or more CPE40 expansion units, Yealink specifies a 48V 2A power adapter for the deployment. This needs to be included at quotation stage. Don’t discover it after the table cable route has already been closed.

Which Room Size Is the CPE40 For?
There isn’t one honest seat-count number for an expansion microphone because table shape changes everything. A compact ten-person room can be easier to cover than a narrow eight-person executive table. Start with distance. If people at the far positions are outside comfortable pickup and listening range from the CP50, that is where an expansion unit becomes useful.

BYOD, Laptop Sharing and the CPE40 — What It Does and Doesn’t Do
The CPE40 doesn’t connect directly to a visitor’s laptop for BYOD meetings. There is no reason for somebody walking into a DMCC boardroom with a MacBook to search for “CPE40” in their USB audio menu. The expansion unit belongs to the CP50 room-audio system. Your laptop, Teams room device or other meeting host handles the meeting application; the CP50 and its expansion audio handle the voices in the room.
That distinction is useful in mixed-platform offices. Staff may join Microsoft Teams in the morning, a client may use Zoom after lunch, and an external consultant may arrive with a different meeting application. The meeting platform can change while the room-audio layout stays where it is. CPE40 units remain positioned around the table to deal with pickup and playback through the compatible CP50 installation.
If wireless presentation or laptop BYOD is part of the room requirement, specify that separately when the room is designed. Yealink has dedicated wireless presentation and BYOD products; the CPE40 shouldn’t be bought to perform that job.
Does the CPE40 Connect to a PABX, Etisalat or du?
Not directly. The CPE40 isn’t a SIP telephone, doesn’t register as a PABX extension and doesn’t connect by itself to an Etisalat or du voice service. It is an expansion audio device inside the CP50 conference setup.
If the complete conference system is being connected to an office telephone environment, compatibility needs to be checked at the host-system level. The important questions are which Yealink conference host you’re using, how the call is being established and whether the room needs normal telephone calling as well as app-based meetings.

Planning the Table Before the CPE40 Arrives
Expansion microphones work better when their positions are planned from the table dimensions rather than placed wherever there happens to be a free cable hole. In a long DIFC executive room, we look at where people actually sit, how far those chairs are from the CP50, where the AC diffusers are and whether a glass wall is reflecting voices straight back toward the microphones.
The CPE40’s stated 6-metre pickup range gives a useful starting point, but it doesn’t mean every boardroom automatically needs one unit every 6 metres. Pickup zones overlap. People move. Chairs at the ends may be occupied only occasionally. The sensible layout is the fewest units needed to give the real seating positions consistent pickup and playback.
Measure the table — We check actual table length, width and the distance between the main CP50 position and the farthest occupied chair.

Where the CPE40 Makes Sense in UAE Projects
One common fit is the long executive table. Twelve seats on paper doesn’t tell you much. A narrow room with six chairs down each side and one at either end can put some people a long way from the central audio device. The combination creates reflection and steady background sound.
