PoE or Wi-Fi — Choose the Cabling That Suits the Room

The cleanest installation normally uses wired Ethernet with IEEE 802.3af PoE. One network cable carries the data connection and powers the CTP18. No separate power adaptor sitting beside the table. No second cable trailing toward a floor box.

That’s particularly useful in Dubai boardrooms with glass partitions and custom meeting tables where visible cabling becomes obvious very quickly. If the table already has a network point or a floor box, the panel can sit permanently in place with one Ethernet run. The CTP18’s normal power consumption is 7 W, with a stated maximum of 8 W.

Where pulling an Ethernet cable to the controller isn’t practical, the CTP18 also supports dual-band 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The correct choice depends on the room layout, available network points and how the IT team wants meeting-room devices connected. We normally confirm that during installation rather than making the decision after the panel arrives.

Microsoft Teams and Zoom Room Control

Yealink provides the CTP18 for Microsoft Teams and Zoom room deployments. It gives users a table-level interface for compatible Yealink room hardware while the main meeting system handles the camera, microphones, speakers and display output.

Content Sharing and Laptop Control from the Table

The CTP18 isn’t only there for joining a meeting. In a compatible Yealink room setup, it can also become part of the presentation workflow. That matters in rooms where someone is sharing a spreadsheet, architectural drawing or sales deck and needs to point something out without walking back to the laptop every thirty seconds.

When the room uses a compatible Yealink WPP20 presentation pod, shared content can be annotated from the CTP18. The panel also supports reverse control of the connected computer in supported deployments. Put simply: the laptop can remain at one end of the table while the person running the meeting interacts with the shared material from the touch panel.

For glass meeting rooms in DIFC and DMCC, where tables are often kept deliberately clean, this is a better working arrangement than stretching HDMI and USB cables across the tabletop. Does the CTP18 Connect to an Etisalat, du or Office PABX?

Not directly. The CTP18 is a meeting-room control panel, not a SIP phone and not a PABX endpoint. You don’t register the CTP18 as an extension on 3CX, Grandstream UCM, Yeastar, Avaya or an Etisalat or du voice service.

Any voice or video calling capability comes from the compatible Yealink room system that the CTP18 controls. If that room endpoint supports the required calling platform, the CTP18 provides the user interface for operating the meeting. The distinction is important when an IT team is planning network VLANs, SIP extensions and meeting-room hardware at the same time.

What Comes with the Yealink CTP18?

Installation — One Cable When the Room Has PoE

Most permanent CTP18 installations we plan use PoE. If there is already a network point under the meeting table, the panel can be connected with one Ethernet cable carrying both network traffic and power. Less clutter. More importantly, the panel has a fixed wired connection instead of depending on a busy office Wi-Fi network.

Where We Usually Specify the CTP18

Corporate meeting rooms are the obvious use, but the pattern is more specific than that. The CTP18 works particularly well where several departments use the same room and nobody should need training on a separate remote control. Consulting offices, legal meeting rooms, training rooms, property companies and regional headquarters all fit that profile.

A DIFC legal team may need the panel only for meeting join and camera control. A JLT training room may benefit more from multiple CTP18 panels because users are spread down a longer table. A DMCC sales office using wireless presentation may care about annotation and reverse control. Same panel. Different reason for installing it.
