Yealink RT20U Repeater Dubai

Yealink RT20U Repeater Dubai

A Yealink cordless handset works perfectly near reception, then starts dropping audio halfway down the corridor. Go through two concrete walls, past the lift core, or into the warehouse at the back and the DECT signal disappears completely. That’s the problem the RT20U is built to fix.

The Yealink RT20U Repeater extends the radio coverage of a compatible Yealink DECT base without adding another phone line or changing the handset setup. Under suitable conditions, a single repeater can extend coverage by up to 50 metres indoors or 300 metres outdoors. Up to 5 RT20U repeaters can be used with a compatible W70B deployment, giving installers more room to cover long offices, villas, clinics, workshops and warehouse areas.

Each repeater supports up to 2 simultaneous calls and uses automatic handover, so a user can walk from the base coverage area into the repeater zone while staying on the same call. Three LEDs on the unit show power and operating status during installation.

Placement matters. RT20U repeaters work in a star arrangement around the DECT base rather than being chained one repeater after another. Every unit therefore needs to sit inside usable radio range of the base. In Dubai offices with reinforced concrete, glass partitions, service corridors and heavy HVAC infrastructure, a quick DECT coverage check before mounting saves a lot of trial and error.

Yealink RT20U UAE supply is suited mainly to existing Yealink DECT installations that need replacement or additional coverage. For new projects, we can also advise whether the RT20U or a newer Yealink repeater is the better fit for the site.

Description

Yealink RT20U Repeater DECT Range Extender for W70B Dubai

The cordless phone is clear at reception. Walk 25 metres down the corridor, pass the lift core and two concrete walls, and the audio starts breaking up. Go into the rear warehouse and the call drops completely. That’s a common DECT problem in Dubai offices, clinics, villas and industrial units where the floor plan looks simple on paper but reinforced walls, service shafts and heavy building structure cut the radio signal much sooner than expected.

The Yealink RT20U Repeater extends the radio coverage of a compatible Yealink DECT base so staff can keep using the same cordless handsets farther from the base station. No second SIP account. No second telephone system. The repeater sits between the base and the weak-signal area and relays the DECT connection. For an existing W70B deployment, up to 5 RT20U repeaters can be used around one base station. The important part is placement: RT20U units work in a star arrangement around the base, so every repeater must still receive a usable signal directly from that base.

Where the RT20U Actually Makes Sense

Think of the RT20U as a coverage tool, not extra telephone capacity. If your W70B is already handling the handsets and SIP accounts you need but one part of the premises has weak DECT signal, a repeater can fill that radio gap. Reception to back office. Ground floor to a nearby stock room. Clinic reception to treatment rooms. A long JLT office where the base sits near the network cabinet and the last two offices are behind several partitions.

Yealink states an indoor coverage figure of up to 50 metres and an outdoor figure of up to 300 metres under suitable conditions. Those numbers aren’t a promise through concrete. In a clear open area you can get close to the stated range. Put the same signal through reinforced walls, metal shelving, lift shafts or dense services above a false ceiling and usable distance can shrink sharply. That’s why we treat the floor plan as a starting point rather than a coverage guarantee.

For new cordless deployments, see the Yealink DECT phone range before choosing the repeater. RT20U is mainly relevant where an existing installation already uses compatible Yealink DECT hardware and needs an extra coverage zone. If the requirement involves a new base, newer handsets or more flexible repeater placement, the full DECT layout should be checked as one system rather than ordering a repeater by itself.

One Detail That Changes the Installation: Star Layout

Up to 5 repeaters around one base

A compatible Yealink base can work with up to 5 RT20U repeaters. That lets an installer cover several weak-signal directions from one central DECT base — for example reception, rear office, warehouse entrance and two side corridors.

The RT20U isn’t a repeater chain

Each RT20U needs usable radio coverage from the DECT base itself. You don’t install repeater 1 at the edge of the base, then repeater 2 beyond repeater 1, then repeater 3 beyond that. That type of cascade capability belongs to newer repeater designs, not the RT20U deployment model.

Automatic handover while walking

The RT20U supports automatic handover between coverage areas. A user can stay on the same call while moving from the base coverage area into the repeater zone, provided both radio areas overlap correctly. This is why mounting position matters more than simply finding the farthest available power socket.

A practical Dubai example: the W70B sits beside the network switch in a server cupboard. The signal reaches the main office but becomes weak after the fire door into a service corridor. Mounting the RT20U inside that corridor only works if the chosen point can still hear the W70B properly. Put it another 15 metres deeper into the dead zone and the repeater has nothing useful to relay. Coverage testing before final mounting prevents that mistake.

Two Calls per Repeater — Know the Limit Before Deployment

Each RT20U supports up to 2 simultaneous calls through that repeater. That’s normally fine for a small dead zone serving a couple of offices, a reception overflow area or part of a villa. It needs more thought when 6 or 8 cordless users could all be standing in the extended coverage area at the same time.

The repeater extends the radio footprint. It doesn’t turn one coverage area into unlimited concurrent call capacity. For example, if three staff members in a rear warehouse are all using handsets through the same RT20U at once, the 2-call repeater limit becomes relevant. In that situation, radio design and user density should be checked before deciding how many repeaters and base stations are required.

For offices that also need fixed desk extensions at reception, finance or management desks, the Yealink IP phone range can sit on the same SIP/PABX environment while DECT handsets handle staff who move around the premises. Fixed phones don’t consume RT20U radio capacity because they connect through the LAN rather than the DECT repeater.

Compatibility — What It Connects To

RT20U is a DECT radio accessory. It doesn’t register to Microsoft Teams, Zoom, a SIP trunk, Etisalat or du by itself. Those services terminate on the Yealink base station or the business phone system behind it. The repeater’s job is narrower: receive the DECT radio connection from the compatible base and extend that radio coverage toward the handsets.

Yealink’s original RT20U documentation also lists compatibility with earlier W52P, W56P and W60P-generation systems subject to the required software versions. For a W70B installation, the current Yealink family documentation records support for up to 5 RT20U repeaters per base. Because RT20U is an older repeater generation, we check the exact base model and existing DECT installation before supplying it rather than assuming compatibility from the handset model alone.

How Much Area Can One RT20U Cover?

Site Situation RT20U Fit What to Check
One weak corridor or office wing Usually suitable Repeater position still receives the base clearly
Villa or clinic with several internal walls Site dependent Concrete walls and floor slabs can reduce range
Warehouse edge near main office Often practical Metal racks and machinery can affect radio coverage
Long site needing repeater-after-repeater coverage Not the right design RT20U uses star placement, not a repeater cascade

Not the right fit?

If you need to extend coverage beyond the reach of a repeater that can still hear the base, the RT20U is the wrong topology. Newer Yealink repeater deployments can support different placement options and higher call capacity. Send us the base model, number of handsets and a simple floor plan before ordering. For a complete replacement system, start with the Yealink DECT Phones Dubai range.

Does the RT20U Affect SIP, PABX or Etisalat / du Calling?

No configuration changes are normally made on the PABX just because an RT20U is added. The repeater sits on the DECT radio side of the system. Your SIP account remains registered on the Yealink base station, while the RT20U simply extends the area where the cordless handset can maintain that radio connection.

That means an office using a W70B with a 3CX, Yeastar, Grandstream UCM, Asterisk or another SIP-based PABX can add radio coverage without creating a separate extension for the repeater. The same applies where the underlying business voice service is delivered through an Etisalat or du SIP connection. The telephone service remains on the base or PBX. RT20U doesn’t connect directly to an Etisalat or du account.

This distinction matters during troubleshooting. If calls fail everywhere, the issue is unlikely to be a repeater coverage problem. If calls work beside the W70B but become unstable only in a particular corridor, stock room or office, then DECT radio coverage is the first thing to check. For fixed extensions on the same telephone system, our Yealink IP phones connect directly through the office LAN rather than through the RT20U.

No BYOD or Content Sharing — This Is a DECT Radio Accessory

There is no HDMI, USB presentation mode, Microsoft Teams room mode or wireless screen sharing on the RT20U. It isn’t that kind of device. The USB connection supplied with the unit is associated with powering the repeater; it doesn’t turn the RT20U into a PC peripheral or conferencing accessory.

Its job is deliberately narrow: extend compatible Yealink DECT radio coverage. If the buying requirement is wireless presentation, meeting-room BYOD or USB conferencing, look at the wireless presentation and BYOD range instead. For RT20U buyers, the useful questions are base compatibility, repeater position, number of simultaneous calls and how many walls sit between the W70B and the target coverage area.

What Comes in the RT20U Box?

RT20U package: Yealink RT20U DECT repeater, USB cable, power adapter and user guide.

The repeater itself is compact at 122 × 62 × 12 mm and weighs about 107 g. It can be wall mounted, which is normally the cleaner approach in offices and clinics. Mounting it high on a wall also keeps it away from filing cabinets, desktop equipment and people moving directly around the unit.

Not included — check before ordering

A Yealink DECT base station, cordless handset, SIP account and PABX are not included with the RT20U. This is a repeater only. If you’re building a new cordless phone system rather than extending an existing one, start with the Yealink DECT phone range so the base, handsets and coverage plan are selected together.

Installation in Dubai — Placement Comes Before Mounting

A repeater isn’t installed by measuring 50 metres from the base and drilling a hole in the wall. That 50-metre indoor figure assumes suitable radio conditions. Real buildings don’t. A reinforced concrete column, electrical room, metal storage rack or lift shaft can change the result completely.

1

Check the weak area — Walk the site with a registered handset and identify where audio starts breaking up, not just where the signal disappears completely.

2

Find the overlap zone — The RT20U must sit where the W70B signal is still usable. Mounting inside the dead zone won’t fix the dead zone because the repeater itself needs a working radio link to the base.

3

Test while moving — Place a live call and walk from the base coverage area through the overlap and into the repeater zone. Automatic handover should happen without the call dropping.

That test is especially useful in DIFC and DMCC offices with glass partitions around meeting rooms, older Deira properties with thick internal walls, and warehouses where rows of metal shelving change the radio path. Yealink RT20U installation and compatibility checking is available in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and the other UAE emirates.

Where We Still See RT20U Used

Clinics: A DECT base near reception covers the front desk and waiting area, while the last consultation rooms sit behind several walls. One correctly placed RT20U can extend handset coverage without running network cabling into every treatment room.

Warehouses: The office-side W70B works properly around dispatch but coverage weakens toward a nearby loading or stock area. An RT20U can fill that edge zone where staff need to stay reachable while moving away from the office.

Villas and low-rise offices: Stairwells, concrete slabs and internal service areas can create a DECT blind spot even when the straight-line distance isn’t large. Placement is normally more important than buying several repeaters.

Existing W70B systems: This is the strongest reason to buy an RT20U today. If the installed system is stable, the handsets are already deployed and one coverage area needs attention, replacing the entire DECT environment may make little sense. We check the installed base first and then advise whether an RT20U is suitable or whether a newer repeater arrangement makes more sense.

RT20U Availability in Dubai

Stock & Availability: RT20U is an older Yealink repeater model, so Dubai availability is based on remaining and replacement stock rather than current factory production. Same-day availability checks and quotes are handled on WhatsApp. Project quantities, replacement requirements and FOB Dubai export requests can also be checked for Africa, GCC and South Asia.

If RT20U stock isn’t suitable for the project, we can check the newer Yealink RT30 repeater against your installed base. Don’t swap models purely because both units are called DECT repeaters — repeater count, cascade support and base compatibility are different. Send the exact base model before ordering.

Yealink RT20U UAE — Dubai and Abu Dhabi Coverage

We support Yealink RT20U UAE requirements for existing DECT installations across Dubai and Abu Dhabi as well as Sharjah, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Umm Al Quwain. For a simple replacement, send the old repeater model and base-station model. For a new coverage problem, send the floor layout and mark the position of the W70B and the area where calls start dropping.

That information is normally more useful than quoting the building’s total square metres. DECT coverage follows walls, obstructions and radio conditions, not the tenancy area printed on the lease. A 250-square-metre open office may need no repeater at all, while a much smaller office divided by concrete service cores may need one.

RT20U Export from Dubai

For existing Yealink DECT estates outside the UAE, replacement RT20U requirements can be checked for telecom resellers and PABX installers in Nigeria, Uganda, Kenya and Ghana. We also handle project enquiries for Mozambique and Angola where older Yealink cordless systems remain in service.

Export orders are quoted FOB Dubai, with quantity and destination checked before confirmation. Because RT20U is an older model, availability can vary by quantity and isn’t treated like a current-production accessory.

For larger replacement projects, send the installed Yealink base model as well as the number of repeaters required. That lets us check whether supplying RT20U replacements still makes sense or whether the DECT coverage design should move to a newer repeater generation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use an RT20U with my Yealink W70B?

Yes, Yealink deployment documentation lists RT20U support with up to 5 repeaters per compatible base deployment. Because RT20U is an older repeater generation, we still recommend checking the exact base model before ordering. WhatsApp the model number from the label on your base and we’ll verify it.

Can I install one RT20U after another to reach farther down a corridor?

No. RT20U repeaters use a star arrangement and each unit needs to remain inside usable radio coverage from the DECT base station. They aren’t installed as a repeater-to-repeater chain. If you need coverage farther than one base-to-repeater hop can provide, the DECT layout needs a different design.

Will one RT20U give me another 50 metres through any Dubai office?

Not automatically. Yealink specifies up to 50 metres indoors under suitable conditions, but concrete walls, lift shafts, metal shelving and building services can reduce that distance. We normally identify the overlap area with a live handset before deciding where the repeater should be mounted.

How many calls can pass through one RT20U at the same time?

Up to 2 simultaneous calls per repeater. If more than 2 cordless users are likely to be making calls at the same time inside one extended coverage zone, tell us before ordering so the radio design can be checked properly.

Does the RT20U need programming on our Etisalat or du PABX?

The RT20U itself doesn’t register to Etisalat, du or the PABX. It extends the DECT radio signal from the compatible Yealink base station. Your SIP extension remains configured on the base and telephone system. During installation we check the repeater association and perform a live walking call through the extended coverage area.

Is the Yealink RT20U still available in Dubai?

RT20U is an older Yealink model, so availability depends on remaining or replacement stock rather than normal current-production supply. WhatsApp +971 55 986 3697 with the quantity and your Yealink base model for a same-day availability check. If RT20U isn’t the right option, we can check whether the newer RT30 suits the installed system.
