Put a normal USB camera at the front of a 16-seat boardroom and the problem shows up immediately. The first four people look fine. The director sitting near the far end becomes a small face in the background. Then somebody stands beside the display to present and the camera either stays wide or starts hunting around the room. We see this in long Dubai meeting rooms all the time — especially where a glass-partition boardroom has a 4-to-8-metre table and the display wall is nowhere near the main speaker.

The Yealink UVC86 takes a different approach. It uses two separate 8MP Sony camera systems: one panoramic eye continuously watches the room, while a motorised PTZ eye handles the close shot. That PTZ camera has 12x optical zoom, so it can move from a full-table view to a person at the far end without relying only on digital enlargement. Which Room Does the UVC86 Actually Fit?

Don’t choose this camera by screen size. Choose it by distance and how people move in the room. Yealink’s own room designs place the UVC86 in 7-to-12-person medium rooms and 12-to-20-person large rooms, with separate microphones and speakers chosen for the table and ceiling layout. That distinction matters. The camera can see a large room, but it doesn’t replace a properly designed room-audio system.

Why Two Camera Eyes Instead of One PTZ Lens?

The lower panoramic camera has its own 8MP Sony sensor and a 120° diagonal field of view, with 110° horizontal coverage. Its job is awareness. It keeps a wide view of who’s in the room and where people are positioned. The motorised PTZ camera above it uses another 8MP Sony sensor, a narrower 90° diagonal view and the optical zoom for the image sent toward the far side.

There are also 9 camera presets. For a training room, that could mean preset 1 for the trainer, preset 2 for the demonstration bench and preset 3 for the full audience. The VCR20 remote or Yealink camera-control tools can move between those stored positions without manually rebuilding the shot each time.

Presenter Tracking Is More Than Following One Person

This is where the UVC86 becomes useful beyond a normal boardroom. Presenter Tracking has three working approaches: Wide Area, Stage and Segment Tracking. The right mode depends on whether the presenter walks freely, stays around a defined stage area, or moves between fixed presentation positions.

Wide Area Tracking suits presenters who move through a broader working area. Stage Tracking is useful when the movement is concentrated around a defined front-of-room zone. In both cases, the point is to keep the presenter properly framed without an operator sitting at the back of the room moving a PTZ joystick.

This makes a difference in internal training, product demonstrations, university-style classrooms and executive presentations. The camera isn’t just switching between seated faces. It is dealing with somebody who stands up, turns toward a display and keeps walking while talking.

Auto Framing, Speaker Tracking and Multi Focus

Auto Framing detects how many people are present and adjusts the view as participants enter or leave. A 12-seat room with only 4 people on a Monday morning doesn’t need to send a wide picture containing eight empty chairs.

Speaker Tracking produces a closer view of the active speaker. In a long table arrangement, that saves the remote side from staring at a permanent full-room view while somebody at the far end is making the main point.

Picture-in-Picture can retain broader room context while presenting a closer participant view. Multi Focus is designed to give individual participants their own closer framing rather than leaving everyone as small figures inside one large room image.

Glass walls are another reason camera placement matters in Dubai. A room facing a busy DMCC corridor can have constant movement outside the meeting itself. During installation we position and test the camera against the actual room geometry rather than assuming the centre of the display is automatically the correct mounting point.

Microsoft Teams, Zoom Rooms and BYOD Deployments

The UVC86 is a camera, not a complete Teams Room or Zoom Room by itself. Yealink uses it as the camera inside the MVC860 Microsoft Teams Rooms system and ZVC860 Zoom Rooms system for medium and large spaces. That difference is important when you’re budgeting a room: the platform computer, touch controller, microphones and speakers are separate parts of the total room design.

For a Microsoft deployment, the UVC86 can sit inside a full Yealink Microsoft Teams Room build with an MCore room PC, touch controller and external audio. For Zoom, Yealink pairs the same camera architecture with its ZVC860 room kit. BYOD designs can use the UVC86 as the room camera while the meeting itself runs on the connected laptop.

That flexibility is useful for UAE offices where the camera needs to stay but the meeting platform changes by room or project. The camera does the optical work. The room system around it decides whether the call is Teams, Zoom or laptop-driven.

The Cable Distance Detail That Matters During Installation

A 7-metre USB cable is fine when the room PC lives behind the display. It becomes a problem when the computer or AV equipment is in a side cabinet, floor box or rack at the rear of a long room. Yealink’s room-design documentation shows the UVC86 working with USB extended over CAT5e for runs of up to 40 metres.

That gives the installer room to place equipment where the building actually allows it rather than where a short USB cable dictates. In Dubai fit-outs with raised floors, glass partitions and existing conduits already packed with network cabling, this can save a messy second route across the room. We still confirm the path, cable category, termination and final room layout before the camera is mounted. Forty metres on a drawing isn’t useful if the cable route has nowhere to go.

BYOD — Using the UVC86 Without Building a Dedicated Room System

Not every boardroom needs a permanently signed-in Teams Room. Some Dubai offices have one meeting room used by employees, visiting auditors, consultants and clients, each arriving with a different meeting platform. In that setup the UVC86 can be used as the room’s USB camera while the laptop runs the call.

The important distinction is that the laptop supplies the meeting application. The UVC86 supplies the camera image. Add the correct microphones and speakers and the same room can handle Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Webex, Google Meet or another PC-based meeting application without changing the camera hardware every time a visitor arrives.

For rooms where staff also need cable-free screen presentation, the Yealink wireless presentation and BYOD range can be designed around the room separately. Don’t assume the UVC86 itself is a wireless presentation device. Camera, content sharing and room audio are separate parts of the installation, which is why we confirm the full workflow before quoting a boardroom.

Does the UVC86 Connect to an Etisalat, du or Office PABX?

Not directly. The UVC86 is a USB conference camera, not a SIP telephone and not a PABX extension. It doesn’t register itself to 3CX, Grandstream UCM, Yeastar, Avaya, Etisalat or du. That distinction saves a lot of confusion during meeting-room planning.

If the room needs normal telephone calling, SIP connectivity comes from the room computer, conferencing appliance or existing communications system around the camera. For example, a PC can run the required softphone while using the UVC86 for video. A properly designed Teams or Zoom room can also coexist with the company’s separate SIP/PSTN calling setup.

So if your brief says “UVC86 plus our existing Etisalat or du office lines,” send us the current PABX model and the meeting platform. We map the call flow first. The camera should never be sold as if it has a SIP account of its own.

What’s in the UVC86 Box?

The standalone camera package uses a 7-metre USB cable. Yealink’s UVC86 bundle package can use a shorter 2.5-metre USB lead, so don’t plan the cable route from a photograph of another bundle. We check the exact SKU being supplied before installation.

Room Audio — Don’t Let a 12x Camera Outrun the Microphones

This is one of the common mistakes in a long room. The buyer sees 12x optical zoom and assumes the complete room now reaches the far end. Visually, perhaps. Audio is a different calculation. A participant 8 metres from the display still needs a microphone placed where that voice can be captured cleanly.

Yealink’s own UVC86 room designs pair the camera with separate audio hardware. One 12-to-20-person BYOD design uses 2 VCM36-W wireless microphones and 2 MSpeaker II units. Other room layouts use ceiling microphones. That is why we design camera reach and voice pickup separately rather than selling a “large room” label and hoping the acoustics cooperate.

Where We Use the UVC86 in Dubai Projects

Executive boardrooms. A long table, 12 to 20 participants and one display wall. The 12x optical lens gives the far end of the table a proper close shot instead of enlarging a tiny section of one fixed wide-angle image.

Training rooms. This is where Presenter Tracking earns its place. A trainer may move from a main screen to a whiteboard and then to a demonstration area. Segment Tracking can divide the presentation area into as many as 4 zones rather than leaving the entire session on one permanent wide frame.

Legal, finance and consulting rooms. In DIFC and Business Bay, it’s common to have a 10-to-16-seat glass meeting room used for client discussions and remote presentations. Here the dual-eye architecture gives the camera a wide awareness view while the PTZ lens handles the close shot.

Multi-purpose rooms. One morning it’s a management meeting. At 2PM someone is presenting quarterly figures at the display. At 4PM a visiting team connects a laptop. A dedicated PTZ camera makes sense when the physical room stays the same but the way people use it keeps changing.

Will the UVC86 cover people at the far end of our 16-seat boardroom?

That’s exactly the type of room where the UVC86 starts to make sense. Yealink uses it in 12-to-20-person room designs, and the PTZ camera has 12x optical zoom. We still check the room length and seating layout because camera reach and microphone pickup are two separate things. A long room normally needs external tabletop or ceiling microphones as well.

Can we use the same UVC86 room for both Microsoft Teams and Zoom?

Yes, depending on the room design. The UVC86 is used by Yealink in both Teams Rooms and Zoom Rooms systems, and it can also operate as a USB camera in a laptop-driven BYOD room. The camera doesn’t decide the meeting platform — the room computer or connected laptop does.

Does the UVC86 register directly to our Etisalat, du or 3CX phone system?

No. The UVC86 is a USB video camera and has no SIP extension of its own. If the room needs PSTN or PABX calling, that connection is handled by the room computer, softphone or communications system used alongside the camera. Our room PC is about 25 metres away from the display. Can we still use the UVC86?

Yes. The standard standalone package includes a 7-metre USB cable, but Yealink documents a USB-over-CAT5e extender option for UVC86 installations up to 40 metres.
